Labiaplasty

Labioplasty is a procedure that reduces the appearance and size of a woman’s external genitalia, more precisely the labia minora, which are usually changed by the aging process or vaginal delivery.

Goal: Labiaplasty changes the position or size of the labia minora and thus reduces or corrects the asymmetry between them.

Operative Technique: There are several corrective techniques. Depending on the patient’s anatomy and local findings, wedge resection of the enlarged labia minora is the most appropriate, because in this way their delicate innervation is preserved and the size of the scar is the smallest. Duration of the procedure and anesthesia: Labiaplasty is performed mainly under local anesthesia or, possibly, in more sensitive patients, analgesia is also possible and lasts about half an hour.

Recovery: Recovery is quite individual and varies from person to person. Patients are generally able to return to normal work activities 2 to 3 days after surgery. Engaging in sports activities is not advised until 4 weeks after surgery. Sexual abstinence is necessary for up to one month after operative correction.

Rare complications:As with any surgery, infection and bleeding can very rarely occur with labiaplasty. Decreased sense of touch may occur as a transient disorder.
