Face Lifting

Face Lifting

The center of the human figure is the face. Regardless of fashion trends and climates, the face is always and everywhere put in the foreground, and it is also the first place where subtle changes in the aging process are noticed with the appearance of the first wrinkles and excess skin. These changes are unstoppable for everyone, but the biological clock can be turned back. For most patients, a successful facelift is much more than a simple physical transformation. A face lift, also known as a face lift, is an aesthetic surgical procedure that helps eliminate signs of aging, such as sagging skin, deep wrinkles and loss of muscle tone. The goal of this procedure is to provide a fresh and rejuvenated appearance, and the key to success lies in choosing an experienced surgeon. In this case, first of all, a trusted surgeon because it’s about your face after all.

When is a facelift performed and what problems does it solve?

Facelifts are usually performed on men and women over the age of forty, although some patients in their thirties can improve their appearance with these procedures. At the Dušanović Practice in Belgrade, face lifting is usually performed by tightening and lifting the sagging tissues of the face and neck, along with so-called volumetric rejuvenation, where a complete restoration of the soft tissues of the face is performed. Another thing to mention is the recommendation to combine facelift with eyelid correction, forehead lift, facial liposculpture (volumetric face shaping using your own fat tissue) and rounded off with superficial face peeling with the help of dermabrasion, laser or chemical agents. The ultimate goal of this complete procedure is a face that looks fresh, firm and toned, and the most common complications we solve for our patients are:
  • Lax skin on cheeks and neck.
  • Deep wrinkles around the nose, mouth and forehead.
  • Excess fatty deposits under the chin.
  • Loss of jaw contour definition.
  • Lax or drooping eyelids
This procedure is not only aesthetic; it also provides patients with emotional satisfaction by restoring self-confidence. The “golden formula of symmetry” has been in force for a long time, and in this era of ours, symmetry is a reflection of beauty.

How to prepare for a face lift?

Before deciding on the procedure, it is important to:
  • Consult with a doctor and understand the possibilities and limitations applicable to your specific case;
  • Prepare the skin with adequate care before surgery;
  • Hydration of the entire organism;
  • Understand the postoperative process and results.

Let's choose the best method.

There are several different operative procedures of face lifting, which lead to the desired results. Facial skin tightening was popular many years ago, but is still used in special cases. Medium-depth and deep facelifts perform a complete restoration of deeper soft tissues over the bony structures of the face. The incisions are located along the hairline at the temples and extend just in front of the auricle, below the fringe and behind the ear. After that, the skin of the face and neck is released, and its excess is removed, with previous tightening of the subcutaneous structures, in order to ensure a long-lasting effect. Sometimes it is necessary to remove fat deposits under the jaw and on the neck with liposuction in order to improve their contours. Of course, the operation and the entire operative procedure is planned based on the assessment of the patient’s condition and needs. So our advice is a direct consultation with a doctor, in order to solve your problem in the best possible way.

The process of facelift surgery

A facelift is performed in the following steps:
  1. Patient Preparation: Includes detailed consultation and procedure planning. As well as an honest conversation about what exactly the patient wants to do to change his appearance.
  2. Performing the operation: Incisions are made in hidden places to minimize visible scars.
  3. Tightening and shaping: Excess skin is removed and subcutaneous structures are tightened for a stable result.
The operation lasts between 2 and 4 hours and is performed under local anesthesia – the length of the operation itself depends on the type of operation (today there are many types of mini-lift S-lift, lifting of the temple region or neck) and the expertise of the operator. What is especially important for the working population is the fact that the postoperative recovery is so short that the patient can return to his regular activities after only 10 days.

Postoperative recovery and advice

After a facelift, it is important to follow your doctor’s instructions to speed up the recovery process:
  • Removal of drains and bandages is done after 1-2 days, after which the patient is allowed to wash his hair;
  • Between the seventh and tenth day, the threads are removed.
What is important to emphasize is that after the face lifting procedure itself, the patient may feel a certain tightening of the skin, and a feeling of numbness of the face and neck. This is, of course, completely normal and, most importantly, a transient feeling that will soon disappear. On the other hand, the healing of scars happens gradually, but certainly faster than on other parts of the body. But you don’t have to worry about the healing and visibility of scars because the doctor will make sure that they are hidden under the hair or in the natural folds of the face, i.e. behind the ears (after endoscopic surgery, there are almost no scars!). One of the most important tips is not to expose the skin to direct sunlight for the next few months, but make-up can be used a few days after the operation.
